Pentax first produced a camera for the outdoors in 1991 when they brought out the IQ zoom. Since then every Pentax outdoor camera has been getting better and better.

Built to cope with rough treatment, the Pentax WG-3 is crushproof, waterproof, shockproof, coldproof and crushproof. But the WG-3 isn’t just a stylish house break. It has a 16 megapixel backlit CMOS sensor and a new generation image engine that produces high-resolution images and video with great quality in color accuracy up to an ISO 6400.

Ain’t no Mountain high enough for the WG-3

The fast f2 to f4.9 lens offers great flexibility for video and Bokeh, or narrow depth of field images, and the 25mm lens has a 4x optical zoom and a 28x digital zoom which is equivalent to a 700mm lens. This means, that when combined with the macro functionality, nothing is too close or too far away for the Pentax WG-3. In addition, the Macro Lights can provide other user-friendly features, such as a Self-Portrait Assist mode to check if the subject’s face is safely captured within the picture frame using the blink of an LED lamp, and a LED lighting mode to use the Macro Lights as a lighting device in the dark. And, in order to minimize camera shake and subject shake, the instant illumination enhance function allows for the use of a higher shutter speed by automatically raising the illumination level of the Macro Lights at the moment of shutter release.

The new Shake Reduction System is really effective and just what you need if you’re going to be shooting on the move or one-handed. The WG-3 and WG-3 GPS provide Full HD movie recording employing the H.264 recording format. The quality of the video is superb and it is all viewable on a high-resolution three-inch non reflective screen or on your TV via the HDMI socket. You can capture high-quality, extended movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels, 16:9 proportions) at a frame rate of 30 frames per second or use the high-speed camera function for slow-motion playback of captured movie clips and a fast-forward movie function to simplify creative movie techniques.

But ,of course, the main point is that you can take a WG-3 to places you wouldn’t dream of taking an ordinary high-quality digital camera.

The GPS version of the Pentax WG-3 also offers position data, built-in digital compass and altitude or water depth gauge and it can also recharge wirelessly. So if you have ever decided not to take a camera with you because of the weight of your equipment or the fear of damaging it, the WG-3 is the perfect action camera for you. It can produce excellent images and video on land and in water and it is tough as you.It also has some great innovative features like Handheld Night Snap mode, which automatically captures four images of the same scene and produces a single blur-free, composite image from them.
